I could tell you about the perfect year round weather, the beautiful beaches, the great food, but you always hear those things. Instead I am going to tell you about the people of Vera Cruz, mainly the Afro-Mexicans. That’s right the Afro Mexicans. Acapulco, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta were fine but I wanted to learn more about Afro Mexicans and where they lived and their life styles.

Day 1: Depart Chicago for your flight to Vera Cruz, Mexico. Upon arrival at the Veracruz International Airport, you will be greeted by your English-speaking guide and then be given private transfers to the Gran Hotel Diligencias (5-star) located across from the main plaza in the center of town. Briefing meeting and dinner.
Day 2: Breakfast at Gran Café del Parroquia. Tour the local historical museum and the town. While here you are given a historical tour of the city, afterward have Lunch. Enjoy the evening in the Plaza
Day 3: Breakfast Buffet at the Villa Rica Restaurant then off to the Afro Mexican town of Mandinga with a driving tour of the city of Boca del Rio on the way. Lunch at a restaurant in Mandinga, then a lake boat ride on Laguna Mandinga Grande to see mangrove estuaries and spot tropical birds (The other option is to not go on the boat or go to a children’s orphanage and give pencils, etc. ). Dinner on your own. Overnight at the Gran Hotel.
Day 4: Travel to the historical town where Yanga and other Africans settled.
Day 5: This day will be free for independent touring or just relaxing around the swimming pool.
Day 6: Breakfast Buffet at the Villa Rica Restaurant, then travel to the small villages of Matamba. Meet with the local people, have lunch, and tour a small museum Travel back to the Gran Hotel Diiligencias. Dinner on your own.
Day 7: Last full day. Farewell Dinner
Day 8: Return flights to Chicago
